Scott
Napoli is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he started
his professional career at the age of fourteen. Scott performed in clubs
under the tutelage of many nationaly known musicians such as Melvin
Rhyne, Buddy Montgomery, Berkley Fudge and Manty Ellis, while furthering
his academic studies at the Wisconsin Conservatory where he received
a Bachelor's Degree in Percussion.
After
moving to New York in 1983, Scott has been very active performing, teaching
and furthering his academic studies. Most recently he recieved a Masters
Degree with a concentration in composition and arranging from the Aaron
Copland School of Music and studied with the renown composer Jimmy Heath.
Scott
is an imaginative drummer and composer who has been busy ia and around
New York and the East Coast. As a sideman his talents have been sought
after by such legendary performers as Junior Cook, Eddie Henderson,
Ira Sullivan, Mose Allison, Al Cohn, Ralph Moore, John Abercrombie and
many others.
His
current Quintet features Criss Cross recording artists Ralph Lalama
on Tenor Saxophone and Flute and Joe Magnarelli on Trumpet. Together
they have performed at several clubs and concerts throughout the New
York area and recorded many of Scott's original composiions.
Scott
is also an enthusiastic teasher. He is a faculty member at the Brooklyn
Conservatory and teaches rhythm workshops and seminars to children and
adults throughout the country.
